As a construction company you want to protect yourself from legal disputes and one of the first ways to do that is to enter into a contract with the homeowner or the person you’re building the property for. Enter into a contract with the subcontractor so that you can detail the rights and responsibilities of each one during the course of the construction. You want to set whose obligation it is to do what. You don’t want there to be disputes between the subcontractors.
You also want to get your timing clear and you want to detail that in the contact. You can’t put the drywall and then the plumbing; plumbing comes before the drywall, so you want to provide for that in the contract. The most important thing in order to protect yourself is to prepare a contract with the homeowner, with the person that you’re building the property for and with your subcontractors.
